Bittersweet trip down memory lane

We just finished sorting through several boxes of stuff that we have at the second floor of the house. It was a bittersweet trip down memory lane for me. There were a lot of letters and cards I got from different persons I am no longer connected with. There were gifts from them as well.

I read one birthday card from someone I consider the closest I had to a real best friend. Her personal note said that we would be friends forever no matter what. We were friends until a big misunderstanding drove us apart. I actually miss her more than the other friends I lost contact with. She’s like my twin.

I do believe that we can say one thing now, promise it, and then do something else altogether tomorrow. That’s because we don’t know what will put a wedge between us and the person we are very close to. It could be life changing, or it could be trivial that we can overcome it after a couple of minutes. Ours was life changing. Our friendship didn’t survive it. Too bad because what we had was something that sisters and bestfriends should have.
