When I opened my email a while ago, I was surprised to see a scanned copy of a move announcements invitation card from a college friend. It is an invitation to help her move to her new place as well as to share her happiness in this new phase of her life.

Where I come from, moving out of the parents’ house when you turn 18 is not obligatory. You can stay until you get married. Sometimes, even until you are financially stable to go on your own.

She just paid a downpayment to a condominium unit near her place of work and is very much excited to start living on her own. There’s a certain high when you are officially responsible for your own life.
