What’s in a name?

It really amazes me how some parents name their kids. My once bestfriend’s brother’s name is J-jey. Nothing else. Just plain J-jey. When asked why they named their son that way, his parents couldn’t tell why. Probably one drunken decision on their part.
Popular celebrities get the honor(?) of having babies named after them. For example…
My brother will be a godfather to a child named Stephen King (insert surname). Yes, the kid’s first name is Stephen King. The mom might be a huge fan of the author. Who knows.
When my sister received the wedding invitation from a distant relative, we were shaking our heads when we read the ring bearer’s name. Guess what? Jon Bon Jovi (insert surname)! This was in the late ’90s. His parents were most likely swept by the phenomenon known as Jon Bon Jovi.
And this takes the cake…
My sisters and I were wondering why a kid here in the neighborhood is always called Jawo. We thought that since his dad is a known big fan of a basketball legend here in the country with the same nick, they nicknamed him Jawo, too. But when we were invited to the kid’s christening, we were surprised to find the baby’s first name. Jaworski! That’s the basketball legend’s surname! Goodness!
These parents don’t realize that they might be subjecting their kids to endless teasing and bullying from other kids. Not to mention the ridicule they’ll get once they get older. Tsk tsk

I once new a guy in school named Justin Case. I always felt sorry for him but I suppose he could’ve been named something far worse.

Stephen King? Jon Bon Jovi? Seriously… hehe
Won’t be too long before we hear someone mentions Britney Spears!
But then I shouldn’t be all too surprised… my ex-colleague’s friend named her daughter Steffi Graf!

Stephen King and Jon Bon Jovi. That’s just an open invitation to insults.
